You Helped Make an Impact in Lives This Summer
Thanks to your generosity, we had the privilege and opportunity of leading team building at the Tulsa Lighthouse Church’s youth camp this summer. It was four days of a lot of fun, a lot of noise, and a lot of craziness. On our last day of team building, all of the activities centered around words. We asked one of the participants, Miss Roli to share her experience with you.
Thursday's team-building exercise at camp was something I will never forget. From the moment Bro. Morrell began explaining it, I knew it would be a memorable experience.
First, the counselors passed out paper and pen to each of us, and Bro. Morrell told us to write on one side anything that held us back. One thing I wrote was “my past,” but what is interesting is that while we were writing these things, he said something along the lines of “this is not our main focus - make this part quick.” And I am glad that was said, because as someone who is held back by her past and regrets, I would have let those bad memories and feelings consume me, and not have heard a thing said after.
Continuing on, we flipped the paper over and had our teammates tape them to our backs, blank side up. Bro. Morrell then had us go to each of our teammates and write on their papers words describing how God sees them. There were quite a few people on my team that I had only just met and didn't know my story, but you would never know that from reading the words written on my back.
Those words brought me to tears and were very encouraging. Some of the counselors even came up and wrote on my back. One wrote “Overcomer,” and others wrote “faithful” and “dependable.” Those were just a few, but the activity overall was very impactful and such an incredible reminder to remember to see myself the way God sees me.
